Kide Waterloop – water-condensed refrigeration system for retail and food service

Waterloop is Kide’s indirect-condensation refrigeration system. In a conventional cold room, each refrigeration unit has its own air-cooled condenser that blows heat into the surrounding space or onto the façade. In Waterloop, each room’s unit is condensed by water or a water–ethylene glycol mixture: the units are connected to a shared closed water loop, and all the heat is removed from the building via one or more dry coolers.

How does Waterloop work?

• Each cold or freezer room gets its own small water-condensed unit (EWR ceiling monoblock, ESW split unit or EWC condensing unit).
• The unit’s condenser is a plate heat exchanger in which the refrigerant transfers heat to the water loop.
• The water loop (water or water + 30–40% ethylene glycol) is connected to a hydraulic module containing a circulation pump, expansion tank, safety valve, filter and thermometers.
• The USI dry cooler removes the heat from the building. The speed of the EC fans and the pump varies according to demand – less energy is used at low outdoor temperatures or under light load.
• As cooling is generated locally at each room, every room can have its own temperature.

Application examples

• Restaurant or hotel kitchen: separate rooms for meat, fish, vegetables and frozen goods – all with quiet EWR or ESW units and one dry cooler on the roof.
• Grocery store: cold rooms, freezer rooms and display cases are connected to a shared water loop; no warm air is blown into the sales area.
• Food production: production rooms at +10…+15 °C (ESW high-temperature version) and storage rooms on the same system.
• Upgrading an existing system: old air-cooled units are replaced with water-cooled units and a single dry cooler is installed.

Waterloop equipment

EWR – water-condensed ceiling monoblock (R-290)

Compact ceiling-mounted monoblock for small cold and freezer rooms: factory-charged, hot-gas defrost, evaporator in a sealed insulated housing, XW60K-2DI controller with remote control, LED light, water condensation.

Chilled 0 °C (−5…+10 °C) – refrigerant R-290 (propane)

-15 ºC ÷ -25 ºC – refrigerant R-290 (propane)

ESW – quiet water-condensed split unit (A2L)

Split unit with plate heat exchanger condenser, scroll compressor on anti-vibration mounts, low-profile or cubic evaporator and electric defrost; also available in a high-temperature version (+10…+15 °C) for production rooms, with a dual-discharge evaporator.

Chilled 0 °C (−5…+10 °C) – refrigerant A2L (R-455A / R-454C)

-15 ºC ÷ -25 ºC – refrigerant A2L (R-455A / R-454C)

High temperature +12 °C (+10…+15 °C) – refrigerant A2L (R-455A / R-454C)

EWC – quiet water-cooled condensing units (A2L / R-449A)

Very compact condensing units for wall, floor or room-top installation, for chilled and frozen applications – scroll compressor, plate heat exchanger, liquid receiver, built-in electrical and control panel. For larger projects, the ANTARTIC series offers variable-capacity (inverter) multi-service condensing units that serve several rooms and refrigerated display cases at once.

USI – dry coolers with hydraulic module

* Estimated heat rejection capacity at an air temperature of +35 °C and water + 40% ethylene glycol at +45 / +40 °C. The hydraulic module includes a circulation pump, expansion tank, safety valve, mesh filter, thermometers and fill/drain connection; the pump speed varies according to pressure.
